License & Permit Bonds

Many political divisions (e.g. City of Indianapolis, Johnson County) require that
a contractor post a License & Permit Bond, in addition to showing
General Liability insurance in order to obtain building permits, or construction trade permits
(HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical). These bonds are to provide a means of backing for the
buyer to seek remedy if the contractor does not perform the work in accordance with
local and national building codes. The amount of the bond required varies according to
the political division involved and a separate bond is required for each city or county
requiring a bond.

The cost of the bond is based on the amount of bond required and the length of the bond period required.
Most bonds are about $100. The exception is a bond for the City of Indianapolis, which run
up to $175 since they are 2 year bonds.
